How Do I Know I can Benefit From an Online Course?
If you are concerned about not having the ability to ask the instructor questions or think you are not technical enough to understand how to participate in an online course, set your fear aside. The course is as simple as clicking a button!
- The class is live and is comprised of up to 30 participants from around the globe
- Watch the instructor from a live video feed via webcam
- Listen to the instructor by using the speakers from your computer
- Talk by using the microphone from your computer or using a telephone (see instructions below)
- Ask questions during the course from an instant messaging system
- Participants will contribute to class polls, groups, and independent work
- Leave the worry behind about taking notes so you can participate and listen, as you will receive the content discussed in class
Tips for Online Exam Course Day
Here are a few tips to help you have a good experience in an e-learning environment:
- You may login to the course 30 minutes prior to the start of the course to troubleshoot any problems you anticipate may happen.
- You can hear the audio of the course by calling a toll number or using VOIP (your computer speakers and/or microphone). When using VOIP, it is encouraged that you do not depend on your speakers from your computer to allow for 2-way communication, as usually individuals will need a microphone or headset with a microphone. Other alternatives are; use a webcam with a built-in microphone (your webcam will not be made visible), test your speakers when you login to determine if 2-way communication is available, or use the chat box for communication. If you do not have a microphone or headset with microphone, you are able to test out your computer speakers prior to the start of class to determine if you are able to speak and hear. If you are only able to hear, the alternative is using the chat box feature to communicate your questions and comments.

Who is the instructor?
Rest assured that your instructor is knowledgeable and concerned about your success. The instructor, Alison M Bodor MS OTR/L, is the author of the OT Advantage Study Manual content. The development of this exam tool is considered to assist in preparing you for entry-level knowledge as an OTR or COTA. Alison incorporates the NBCOT® Official Study Guide for the OTR® and COTA® Certification Exam into the online courses to assist in providing additional reliable examples to complement the strategies taught.
Alison has over 6 years clinical experience and developed the OT-ADVANTAGE.COM website for Occupational Therapy practitioners, students, and educators. This course is an additional resource outlet to create accessibility to learning.

As an internationally-based OT, courses and seminars to prepare for the NBCOT held in the States, were out of the question for me.
